Metal

Multiple sources for built-to-order metal products

We source from metal fabricators across Asia that can custom build to print just about anything, even if new tooling is required. We have been sourcing from our network of suppliers for decades, and over the years our customers have come to trust us for innovative ideas and advice. We have consistently delivered products that have exceeded quality and costing expectations. We are flexible in accommodating our customers’ needs, from trial run programs and feasibility testing to large, complex order runs that last for years.

Our Process

Product Specification Phase:
  • Working with our clients’ designers and engineers, we translate performance criteria and sketches into specifications, compliance requirements and drawings.
  • We send this information to our suppliers for an initial assessment of manufacturability and quoting. Our manufacturers determine if they can produce the design reliably and at the lowest possible cost to meet the performance criteria. Then they provide a quote.
  • If we identify opportunities for design improvement through this process, we discuss and evaluate these with the client for feasibility, cost and timing, and we then update the specifications and drawings before obtaining final quotes.
Sample Phase:
  • After acceptance of a quote, our manufacturers deliver prototype samples for trial, feedback and approval. If any production tooling is needed, it is created once prototypes are accepted.
Quality Control:
  • Our client’s quality control and standards compliance needs are managed by the factory with third-party testing as required. This is done by our manufacturers, as well as by North American test labs (e.g. Intertek).
  • In many cases, our clients will visit our supplier’s facilities to witness first production runs and validate for themselves the quality of the manufacturing, testing and packaging.
  • Where required, all components and completed chairs are tested to meet the Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association’s (BIFMA) standards with full test results provided.

Metal Frames Needed to be Built to Print With No Margin for Error

Our customer, an international Ready-To-Assemble (RTA) furniture manufacturer, needed metal frames custom built to the most exacting measurements and then powder-coated. The frames were part of a multi-container, high-volume order that included wooden and plastic components, which all had to fit together perfectly. Not only did the dimensions have to be exact, but the welds also needed to be perfect, as the frames needed to fit into the customer’s shipping box and they would not be inspected again until they reached the end consumer.

Working with our design department, the factory built the frame to the customer’s precise specifications. After powder coating, the frames were boxed and shipped to our facility in 40-foot containers. Our team unpacked the containers, sorted the components onto pallets, carried out secondary spot testing, shrink wrapped each order and loaded them onto trucks for delivery.

Result: The customer received their order exactly as specified and were able to directly insert the packaged frames into their own custom carton along with the rest of the furniture’s components.   Our customer relied on us to source and supply a critical component in a high volume, multi-year project. This allowed them to focus on their area of expertise in design, manufacturing and distribution of the finished product.
